Caldera

Caldera was an Imperial charter just north of Balmora. It was built to service the nearby ebony mine, providing the miners with homes, entertainment and religion. The town was ruled largely from the Caldera Mining Company's fortress to the northeast. The buildings, which had Imperial and Nordic architectural influences, formed an inverse "L" shape between two large guard towers. While Dunmer presence in Caldera was almost non-existent, a large contingent of Orcs (as well as their pet scamp) lived in the dilapidated Ghorak Manor. Notable institutions in Caldera included an Imperial Cult altar, a Mages Guild branch, a pawn shop, a tavern and one of the only Imperial-style clothiers in Vvardenfell.

Camlorn

Camlorn is a major city of High Rock, located on its western coast. The city was previously the center of a kingdom, also called Camlorn, which was founded in 2E 302. It was once predominately a Nordic city, but was assimilated by the Bretons over time.

In 2E 541, the city was sacked by a horde of Reachmen led by Durcorach the Black Drake. After the Reachmen were defeated, Camlorn, along with Daggerfall, Shornhelm, Evermore and Wayrest, signed the first Daggerfall Covenant.

In 3E 63, the Prince Pelagius, who would go on to become Pelagius Septim II, visited the city of Camlorn to woo the daughter of King Vulstaed, Quintilla, regarded as the most beauteous princess in Tamriel. She would later go on to become his second wife.

Some time just prior to 3E 432, Kelmena, the daughter of Duke Senhyn of Camlorn, was married to Prince Camaron of Daggerfall, suggesting a possible unified kingdom along the western coast of Tamriel.

Cann

Cann was a ruin in the Shivering Isles. Though the initial origin of Cann is all but unknown, the last notable inhabitants were a group of Manic idealists who brought residents of the Isles (and sometimes beyond, in the case of Beldring of Palgania) to the ruins to be housed and pampered for days on end. Ultimately, the group who oversaw this project fled the ruin, and the bloodbath that they caused.

Lake Canulus

Lake Canulus is a small lake in the far east of Cyrodiil, between the Silverfish and Panther Rivers. It is surrounded by old forts, mines, camps, and caverns. A great monastic complex of the Alessian Order was once built along its shores, but it was razed during the War of Righteousness, and much of its archives were destroyed. The Ayleid city of Varsa Baalim was located near the lake before it plunged into the ground.

Cape of the Blue Divide

The Cape of the Blue Divide is the waters of the Aldmeri Dominion around Summerset Isle. Stros M'Kai is noted for its strategic position near the waters. "By the Blue Divide" is a common saying among Altmer.

Castle Ebonheart

Castle Ebonheart (usually just called Ebonheart) was the seat of Imperial authority on Vvardenfell. From this city, the Duke of Ebonheart, Vedam Dren, and his Grand Council determined law and policy for the Vvardenfell administrative district. The Imperial Chapels served the Duke, his retainers and the castle's garrisons, and were also an administrative center for Imperial Cult presence on Vvardenfell. A unit of the Imperial Guard protected the Duke, and the Hawkmoth Legion was also garrisoned within the walls of the castle.

The name of the settlement was taken from the mainland city of Ebonheart. It was built sometime after Vvardenfell was opened for settlement in 3E 414 to act as the new Imperial capital of the island. Much of the business in Vvardenfell which concerned either the Empire or House Hlaalu was conducted in Castle Ebonheart, as the Hlaalu Grandmaster was the Duke himself.

Because the East Empire Company was chartered directly by the Emperor, its offices, warehouses and docks were adjacent to the castle, and its security was assured by the Imperial garrisons. The provinces of Skyrim and Black Marsh maintained diplomatic missions in Ebonheart, the latter mainly in concern for its citizens, due to the fact that the Morrowind province was exempt from the abolition of slavery.

Castle of the Worm

The Castle of the Worm was an enormous complex built in Coldharbour. It served as the Order of the Black Worm's stronghold during the time of the Planemeld.

Following the Soulburst caused by Mannimarco in 2E 578, Nirn was cast adrift so that Molag Bal could merge it with his realm of Coldharbour. Although acting as his loyal servant, Mannimarco planned to usurp Bal's place as the God of Schemes and rule over both Nirn and Coldharbour. The Castle of the Worm was built using dark magics and the slave labor of Soul Shriven as a monument to the necromancer's hubris. Although Mannimarco himself continued to rule from the Imperial City, the Castle was used as a prison and cattle pen. Overseen by Worm Cultists, countless mortals were sacrificed to Molag Bal at the Castle, losing their souls to become Soul Shriven. Their corpses were then used as material for the creation of undead servants to guard the fortress. A small Soul Shriven village called the Wretched Squalor sprung up outside the walls of the Castle.

One of the Castle's many prisoners was Chancellor Abnur Tharn of the Elder Council. Despite submitting to Mannimarco following the necromancer's betrayal of Emperor Varen Aquilarios, Tharn was eventually removed from his position of power in the Imperial City and confined to the Castle. He was given meaningless tasks, overseeing minor Worm Cult cells on Tamriel and sorting soul gems, and was kept alive for political reasons only until such time as he could be disposed of. By chance, in 2E 582 following his escape from Coldharbour, Varen Aquilarios came into possession of a magical orb that Tharn used to communicate with a subordinate. Seeing it as a chance to escape, Tharn promised to reveal the location of Sai Sahan if he could be extracted from the Castle. Aquilarios created a portal to Coldharbour for Lyris Titanborn and the Soulless One, who were then able to enter the Castle through its cistern with the help of Sir Cadwell. Fighting through the Daedric, mortal and undead guardians, the intruders succeeded in freeing Tharn from captivity and were teleported out by Aquilarios after a brief confrontation with Mannimarco's projection.

After his failure to secure the Amulet of Kings from the Five Companions later that year, Molag Bal learned of Mannimarco's plans to replace him. The King of Worms was pulled into Coldharbour to be tortured for all eternity, and although he later escaped from the Prince's clutches, it can be assumed that the Worm Cult fell out of favor within Coldharbour. The fate of the Castle of the Worm is unknown following the failure of the Planemeld.

Castle Volkihar

Castle Volkihar is an ancient castle perhaps dating back to the Merethic Era or the early First Era. It is located on an isolated island off the coast of Haafingar Hold in Skyrim, near the border with High Rock.

Cathnoquey

Cathnoquey é uma região de terra que fica entre Tamriel e Akavir. Tudo que se sabe desta terra é que foi conquistada por Uriel Septim V em 3E 276.

Ceporah Tower

The Ceporah Tower is an ancient structure on the Isle of Artaeum, an island in the Summerset Archipelago. It is so old, it even predates the arrival of the Altmer on the island by several hundred years.

The tower is used by the Psijics in some of their rituals, but is most famous as the location beneath which Vanus Galerion confronted Mannimarco about the latter's increasing fascination with necromancy and soul-trapping. It was this confrontation that led directly to the founding of the Mages Guild.

Cespar

Cespar is a large island off the western coast of Hammerfell.

Ceyatatar

Ceyatatar, meaning "Shadow of the Fatherwoods" in Ayleidoon, is a crumbling Ayleid ruin in the wilderness between the Imperial City and Skingrad. The entrance leads into the central dome of a great underground edifice once dedicated to Magnus, where ancient magic still casts a blue shimmer onto the faded white walls.

The Chain

The Chain is a group of islands off the southwestern coast of Hammerfell.

Cheydinhal

Cheydinhal is a city in eastern Cyrodiil whose architecture and culture contains heavy Dunmer influence due to its close proximity to Morrowind's border. Located in the foothills between the Valus and Jerall Mountains, Cheydinhal sits on the northeastern edge of the Nibenay Basin, a river valley of tributaries to Lake Rumare and the Niben River.

Cheydinhal consists of three districts: Cheydinhal Castle, Market, and Chapel. The dominating feature of the city is a tributary of the Corbolo River, which bisects the city from north to south. The river is crossed by three bridges: a single bridge to the north connects the Market district to the Chapel district, while two smaller bridges to the south connect the southwest plaza and Chapel via a small island park.

Chorrol

Chorrol is a medium-sized town in northwestern Cyrodiil, between the Great Forest of west Cyrodiil and the Colovian Highlands of the Hammerfell border. The city is divided into five main districts: Fountain Gate, Castle Chorrol, Chapel Street, West District and the Great Oak Place. Situated in the rugged highlands of Colovia, the city's grounds are strewn with large boulders that set the mountainous mood of the city as much as they serve as obstacles to pedestrians. The walls are well-fortified in anticipation against attack, with watchtowers placed at regular intervals along its length. The ruler of Chorrol at the time of the Oblivion Crisis was Countess Arriana Valga, widow of the hereditary Count of Chorrol.

Clavicus Vile's Realm

Clavicus Vile's Realm is a realm of Oblivion, created and ruled over by Clavicus Vile, the Daedric Prince of Wishes. It appears as a tranquil countryside, dotted with majestic cities of glass and ornate buildings. The city of Umbriel was once a part of the realm, but was eventually severed and came to rest in an unnamed realm of Oblivion.

Cyrus the Redguard once visited the realm in 2E 864 to bargain with Vile, who had been given the soul of his sister, Iszara, by the Sload necromancer N'Gasta. Cyrus won the Prince's game and rescued his sister's soul.

In 3E 433, one of Vile's artifacts, the Umbra Sword, was returned to the realm by the Champion of Cyrodiil at the Prince's request. However, Barbas, the Hound of Vile, knew it was a poor decision and attempted to stop its return, as the sword contained a piece of the Prince's power which had gained sentience. The being, who called himself Umbra, escaped the sword once it was brought to the realm, and stole a significant amount of the Prince's power before fleeing to the edge of the realm. To prevent Umbra leaving with his power, Vile sealed the borders of the realm, essentially sealing them all within.

Clockwork City

Cloud Ruler Temple

Cloud Ruler Temple was an ancient stronghold of the Blades located high in the Jerall Mountains near Bruma. It is one of the most dramatic remaining examples of Akaviri architecture.

Built by Reman Cyrodiil's Akaviri Dragonguard at the founding of the Second Empire, it served as their headquarters. Even as they became known as the Blades, the Emperor's agents continued to occupy Cloud Ruler Temple until the end of the Third Era. Legend has it the swords of those slain protecting the Dragonborn were hung within the Great Hall of the temple. The archives of the temple were believed to have been the primary repository of the oldest Blades lore.

Cloudrest

Cloudrest is a city in the northern regions of Summerset Isle, located atop Eton Nir, the highest mountain on the isle. It features an unusual mixture of architectural styles, with vine-like buildings built on top of other, older structures. The oldest of all the ruins are made of coral, which must have been carried many, many miles away from the sea. The material and the style of the ruins strongly suggest that the Sload may have had a hand in their construction.

Coldharbour

Coldharbour is a realm of Oblivion created and ruled over by Molag Bal, the Daedric Prince of Domination. As befits his sphere, Bal's realm is a desolate, apocalyptic image of Nirn, which is achieved by both mocking imitation and outright theft of parts of the mortal realm. It is inhabited by Daedra and the eternally-tormented souls of mortals called Soul Shriven. Descriptions of the plane vary widely, but all accounts agree that Coldharbour is a dismal, cold, and largely lifeless realm.

College of Winterhold

The College of Winterhold is a school for magic in the city of Winterhold. Its campus is imposing and fortress-like, arranged around a large central courtyard and reachable only across a narrow stone bridge. It functions much like the Mages Guild in other parts of Tamriel, but is a resolutely independent establishment separate from the Guild. The College holds documents dating back as far as the late Second Era, though the College itself is even older. It is said to have been founded in the First Era by the legendary mage Shalidor, although it is one of many dubious feats attributed to him.

The College is a selective institution, which allows entrance only to those students who prove themselves adept at the magical arts. However, once a student earns admittance, they are granted more freedom of experimentation than in the Mages Guild, with even Necromancy regarded as an acceptable arcane practice. The College's main building is the Hall of the Elements, which is used for all kinds of magical practice. It holds the famous Arcanaeum library as well as the Arch-Mage's quarters, while accommodations for students and faculty are provided in separate buildings. Beneath the college campus lies the Midden, a remnant of the college's past where many of its greatest secrets lie.

Colored Rooms

The Colored Rooms are a realm of Oblivion, created and ruled over by Meridia, known as the Daedric Prince of Infinite Energies. From what little has been seen of the Colored Rooms, they seem to resemble a cross between a coral reef and a vast field of floating stones, strewn with colorful trails of dust or cloud. The "ground" between the stones looks like luminescent water, but is solid enough to walk on. Aurorans are the spawn of Meridia, although they have close ties to the Ayleids. It can be assumed that they dwell in her realm of Oblivion.

The Colored Rooms were formed when Meridia fled Mundus with her fellow Star-Orphans. However, instead of fleeing to Aetherius, Meridia went into the Void, where she was chided by the Daedric Princes for her trespass. Bending the light of Magnus, Meridia then carved her own sphere from the chaos of the Void, creating a new plane of Oblivion.

Colovia

Colovia is the western part of Cyrodiil and is known for its austere, martial culture and rugged population of Nordic descendants. The borders have moved over time, but in the Third and Fourth Era the region comprised Anvil, Chorrol, Kvatch and Skingrad counties, and the Imperial Reserve. Back in the first and second eras, the modern Skyrim hold of Falkreath was, at times, included as one of several kingdoms making up western Colovia.

Most of the population in the later eras resides in the cities of the south, although there are scattered farms and settlements throughout the area. The region around the sea port of Anvil is known as the Gold Coast. The region around Skingrad is known as the West Weald, and is well known for its vineyards and tomato farms. The city of Kvatch lies on a rocky outcrop between Anvil and Skingrad, with the Colovian Highlands stretching away to the north. The city of Chorrol is the main population center in the northern part of Colovia, a hilly, forested region sandwiched between the Great Forest and the Colovian Highlands.

Colovian Highlands

The Colovian Highlands are a hilly, forested region of Colovia on the western edge of Cyrodiil. The borders of Hammerfell lie to the northwest. The Gold Coast and West Weald border the region to the south, and the Jerall Mountains and Great Forest are to the east. The town of Chorrol can be found in this region.

Corbolo River

The Corbolo River is one of the largest tributaries of the Niben River, which it joins at the northeast corner of Niben Bay. It rises to the southwest of Cheydinhal, flowing southeast until it merges with its tributary, the Reed River, then south, then finally southwest.

Corinthe

Corinthe, also called Corinth, is a major city in the central region of Elsweyr. The city is a notable center of the skooma trade, an operation overseen by Ya'Tirrje, the Gold Cat of Senchal himself. At one time, it housed a Dark Brotherhood sanctuary, which was closed in 4E 188. It was also known to have a Mages Guildhall, established sometime before 2E 582, though it is unknown how long this guildhall existed.

Cropsford

Cropsford is a settlement located along the Yellow Road in the Nibenay Basin of Cyrodiil. The land is in the center of goblin territory, which has historically caused trouble for settlers.

During the Alliance War of 2E 582, a large town was located at Cropsford. It was primarily a farming settlement, and had a shrine dedicated to Zenithar. Settlement was strongly encouraged by the townsfolk, many of whom were not natives of Cyrodiil and decided to stay after passing through. The town was constantly plagued by the undead from Culotte, and the Bloody Hand Tribe of goblins. Cropsford was initially located within the territory held by the Ebonheart Pact, although the town changed hands many times over the course of the war. It was feared at the time that the encroaching goblins planned a full-scale attack.

The town's troubles were clearly too great to overcome, as the settlement was later abandoned. In 3E 433, the land was offered cheaply by the government, and a Breton family from High Rock purchased it. Their plans to build a farm at Cropsford were dashed when they arrived to discover that the land was the center of an ongoing goblin war between the Bloody Hand Tribe and the Rock Biter Tribe over a stolen totem. The Champion of Cyrodiil put an end to the war, allowing construction to begin. It was hoped that Cropsford would one day become a thriving town.

Crowhaven

Crowhaven is a fort located along the Gold Coast of Cyrodiil, in County Anvil. It was once the home of the Lord Loviducus, but fell into ruin and became home to a den of feral vampires.

Crypt of Hearts

The Crypt of Hearts is a multi-level mausoleum located in northern Tamriel made up of dank, winding passageways filled with strange creatures. As befits such a place, its exact location is uncertain, having entrances in both High Rock and Skyrim. The city of Shornhelm, near its High Rock entrance, is sometimes referred to as "the Keeper of the Crypt".

In 3E 397, due to the ongoing War of the Bend'r-mahk, a Shadow of Conflict was created deep within the crypt. This Shadow of Conflict, or "Umbra' Keth", could be controlled by a powerful Shadowmage. Pergan Asuul, one such Shadowmage, sought to control the monstrosity for his own ends, as did Jagar Tharn, who was posing as the Emperor Uriel Septim VII. An unknown hero, under the guidance of Azra Nightwielder and Skelos Undriel, recovered the seven Star Teeth in an effort to destroy the Umbra' Keth. The hero descended into the crypt on the Skyrim side of the border, near the city of Dragonstar. All but one of the crypt caretakers had fled, as the Umbra' Keth's presence had caused the dead to rise. The hero battled the final incarnation of Pergan Asuul in the crypt, and placed the Star Teeth on their pedestals in the Vault of the Heavens. The hero then lured the Umbra' Keth from the third level of the crypt and into range of the power of the Star Teeth, which weakened the shadow creature and allowed the hero to destroy it, preventing it from falling into the hands of Tharn, or anyone else who would misuse it.

The crypt was also used as a hiding place for one of the shattered pieces of the Staff of Chaos throughout the Imperial Simulacrum. The Eternal Champion, on a quest to dethrone Jagar Tharn, sought out the crypt. The Brotherhood of Seth in Camlorn, with the aid of a map that the champion recovered, were able to find an entrance to the crypt. The entrance was at the end of the northern bay in High Rock, near the city of Shornhelm. The champion recovered the piece of the staff on the fourth level of the crypt.

Crystal Tower

The Crystal Tower (also called the Crystal-Like-Law or Lawful Crystal) was an ancient, mystical structure located near the northern tip of Summerset Isle, northwest of Cloudrest. It was built by the early Aldmer as a monument to their ancestors, and was considered sacred to the Altmer. Before the construction of the Arcane University, it was the pinnacle of magical learning in Tamriel. The top of the Crystal Tower was reserved for interring the dead. The southernmost tips of the Dragon's Teeth Mountains of mainland Tamriel could be seen from the top parapet of the tower. The tower seemingly existed in many other planes of existence. The interior of the tower was white and radiated light. It contained a Great Library and a treasury with many ancient tapestries and other relics. The Crystal Tower was famed for its animal pens, which held many different creatures from all across Tamriel.

I'ric Harad Egun was once the Archmagister of the tower. Tame trolls were employed as guards in the tower. During the Imperial Simulacrum, Jagar Tharn hid a piece of the fractured Staff of Chaos within the tower. The Eternal Champion located the tower by recovering a magical diamond from the Temple of the Mad God. The diamond was the source of power for the Mages Guild of Lillandril, and with the diamond the guild was able to locate the tower. The Eternal Champion entered the tower and recovered the piece of the Staff of Chaos. The tower was an early target for The Beautiful, but they failed to destroy it and moved on to easier targets. During the Oblivion Crisis (known to the Altmer as the Great Anguish), refugees fled to the Crystal Tower to fortify against the Daedra hordes. The Daedra broke through the refugees' defenses and used magic to topple the tower.

Culotte

Culotte is an Ayleid ruin located along the banks of the Upper Niben, in the Heartlands of Cyrodiil.

During the Alessian Slave Rebellion, Culotte became home to one of the Ten Ancestors, Ayleid statues originally held in the White-Gold Tower which were dispersed to cities across Cyrodiil for safekeeping. Culotte subsequently fell into ruin after the Ayleids' downfall.

The ruins of the settlement were once known to attract undead of all kinds. Circa 2E 582, the nearby settlement of Cropsford was occasionally threatened by the undead that flocked to Culotte, prompting the townsfolk to periodically clear the ruins. Eventually Culotte was cleared of undead. In 3E 433, the Champion of Cyrodiil entered the ruins and retrieved the ancient Ayleid statue, causing the dead to rise from their graves and once again plague the ruins. The statue was later sold to Umbacano.

Cybiades

Cybiades is an uninhabited island off the northern coast of Sentinel, within the Iliac Bay. Redguards settled on the island.

The only notable structure on the island is the ruins of Cosh Hall, which now serves as a human stronghold. The dominant vampire bloodline of the region is Selenu. Although the island is uninhabited, it was considered a separate political entity until the Warp in the West, when it was most likely subsumed by the massive expansion of the Kingdom of Sentinel.

Cylarne

Cylarne was a ruin in the Shivering Isles at the end of the Third Era, located on the Isle of Flame. It is the oldest known ruin in the Isles, and is rumored to be the original capital of the Shivering Isles. The ruins of Cylarne are home to the Cold Flame of Agnon, which is fed by the altars of Rapture and Despair.

In 3E 433, Sheogorath's Champion was sent to Cylarne to relight the Great Torch in New Sheoth, which was extinguished by the coming Greymarch. The Champion put an end to the conflict by manipulating a planned attack from the Saints, and brought the holy Flame back to New Sheoth.

Cyrodiil
