Notes

  • You have a 10% chance of meeting an Orc Adventurer here.
  • One section of this cave, containing the Grand Soul Gem and boss-level Undead in Nornal Ageasel, does not exist unless you have reached at least stage 30 of the Vampire Cure quest.
  • Nornal also appears in ESO.

Exterior

Key to Maps

Map of Nornal Exterior
  • The exterior is located at coordinates: Tamriel 24, 10
  • This location's map marker (M on map) is named Nornal (editor name NornalMapMarker). The entrance door is ENE of the marker, 10 feet away.
  • 1 Wilderness Creature (Hills variety) is near the entrance
  • The following plants can be found near the entrance: 9 Bergamot plants, 1 Foxglove plant, 3 Lady's Smock plants, 13 Lavender plants, and 17 Monkshood plants

Zone 1: Nornal

Nornal

This zone has sections that are underwater

  • The gate to the underwater area in this zone is openable with A Rusty Key that can be found in a chest in Nornal Ageasel. The same key can also be found in a chest in the Leyawiin Mages Guild, specifically in the laboratory at Mages Guild 2nd Floor West. However, the similarly named Rusty Key will not work. The gate is no challenge though. If you are on the associated quest there will be a chest here; otherwise there will be nothing.

Occupants:

Treasure:

  • 1 Sunken Chest (contains Dead Drop Orders #7 and 500 gold; only appears once related quest has started; non-respawning) at location H on map
  • 1 Chest 01 (locked)
  • 1 Welkynd Stone next to the chest

Traps:

Doors and Gates:

  • There are four doors in/out of this zone
  • 1 Gate at K (locked, opened by A Rusty Key note: If you are able to walk on water, there is no need to unlock the door at K, you can pass over it.)
  • 1 Gate at M (locked)
  • 1 Hidden Door at L

Zone 2: Nornal Ageasel

Nornal Ageasel

One section of this zone does not exist unless you have started the Vampire Cure quest. At stage 30 of that quest (when Melisande tells you she wants five Grand Soul Gems), hidden door K and the room behind it is added to the dungeon. Following the quest, the section remains in place for the remainder of the game.

Occupants:

  • 1 boss-level Bones Undead at location A on map (only if Vampire Cure quest has been started, see above).
  • 2 Campsite Marauders (each 50% probability melee Marauder, 16% archer Marauder, 16% Marauder Battlemage, 16% dog)
  • 1 Bones Undead

Treasure:

  • 1 boss-level Ayleid Reliquary (Marauder variety; locked) at location B on map
  • 1 empty grand soul gem at s (only if Vampire Cure quest has been started)
  • 1 Chest (contains A Rusty Key; non-respawning) at k
  • 1 Chest 02
  • 12 Welkynd Stones
  • The other following items will always be found: 2 Apples and 1 Iron Dagger
  • Some of the above items are clustered at location H: 2 Apples, 1 Iron Dagger, and 1 Welkynd Stone

Traps:

Doors and Gates:

  • There is one door (at C) in/out of this zone, leading to the zone Nornal
  • 1 Hidden Door at K (only if Vampire Cure quest has been started)

Other:

  • 4 bedrolls at locations b on map

Zone 3: Nornal Goriluch

Nornal Goriluch

This zone has sections that are underwater

Occupants:

Treasure:

Doors and Gates:

  • There are two doors (at F and G) in/out of this zone, both leading to the zone Nornal Varlasel
  • 2 Hidden Doors at L and M (opened by moving extremely close to the grate between them)
  • 4 Iron Gates (opened remotely) at H, I, J, and K

Open the remote gates

Trying to open the gates can be confusing because they work as toggles, but you can't see the state of them (on or off).

On either side of the walkway, as you face the four gates (marked H, I, J and K on the map), you will find four toggle switches. The switches are in pairs, one of each pair on a tall pedestal and one on a short pedestal:
Tall left: Toggles gate H and J (changes behavior when both are closed: Then it opens just H)
Short left: Toggles gate H and I (changes behavior when both are closed: Then it opens just H)
Tall right: Toggles gate J (changes behavior when H, I and K are open. Then it closes I)
Short right: Toggles gate H and K (does not change behavior)

The short right button is the key. It's the only button which never changes behavior. So try to open all gates, except for H and K, and then pressing the short right button.

Even with low Athletics, it's trivial to just jump past gates H and I, so you only really need to worry about opening J and K.

Zone 4: Nornal Varlasel

Nornal Varlasel

This zone has sections that are underwater

Occupants:

  • 3 Campsite Marauders (each 50% probability melee Marauder, 16% archer Marauder, 16% Marauder Battlemage, 16% dog)
  • 1 archer Marauder
  • 3-6 Nuisance Animals

Treasure:

Doors and Gates:

  • There are four doors in/out of this zone
  • 1 Iron Gate (opened remotely) at H
