Hides-His-Heart

Hides-His-Heart is a mysterious male Argonian enforcer who works for a highly secretive yet powerful and dangerous faction of the murky criminal underworld in Cyrodiil. The organization he works for however remains unnamed and unseen in the game, but apparently is quite fearsome and holds some degree of influence on the authorities, especially in Chorrol. He does not appear in the game until stage 20 of the related quest. He is sent to kill a wealthy resident of Chorrol, Francois Motierre. Motierre has taken too much time to repay a loan of considerable amount, which has "insulted" the organization. Motierre wants you to help him fake his own death by slicing him with a dagger laced with a powerful sedative, so that Hides-His-Heart will believe Motierre dead and return to his masters to inform them a Dark Brotherhood assassin got to Motierre first.

Hides-His-Heart wears a mixture of light and heavy armor: an iron helmet, an iron cuirass, fur gauntlets, fur greaves, and a pair of chainmail boots. He also has an iron claymore and a paltry sum of gold.

When you arrive in Chorrol, a seemingly scared Francois Motierre will tell you about the Enforcer: "They've sent an enforcer to kill me! His name is Hides-His-Heart, and he's on his way here now! That's why I hired you! So you can fake my death!" He will then fill you in on the plan: "Well, when Hides-His-Heart gets here, I'll put on a little act. You'll cut me with your poison knife, and that vile enforcer will think I'm dead. You must then flee from Chorrol, and Hides-His-Heart must not be killed! That way he can go back and tell his employers I'm dead. Got all that? Good! Hides-His-Heart will be here any moment. Get ready! Oh, I do hope this works..."

When Hides-His-Heart finally knocks on Francois' door, he will whisper: "Motierre! I know you're in there! My employers are most displeased. I'm coming in and you can beg for your life. Not that it will do any good! Ha ha!" Hides-His-Heart will then enter the house, initiate conversation with Francois and be quite surprised when he sees you:

"Motierre! I am here to exact payment, in blood! You will... eh? Who is this?"

"Oh no! What am I to do! An underworld enforcer and a Dark Brotherhood assassin, both here to kill poor Francois!"

"The Dark Brotherhood? Oh, you have been a naughty boy, Motierre, haven't you? Stand aside, assassin! Motierre is mine! My employers demand it!"

"*Gasp* What's this? Oh, Dark Brotherhood assassin, please don't cut me with that wicked blade! It looks like this is the end of poor Francois!"

"We'll see who gets to cut you, Motierre! Let me show you how a real killer operates, you Dark Brotherhood mongrel! Defend yourself!"

If you manage to approach the enforcer at this point, he will say: "So, you are here to kill Motierre, eh? Well he's mine, and nothing will stand in my way!" After this, he will proceed to attack you and follow you into the streets of Chorrol. You will have no choice but to follow Francois' plan and exit Chorrol until Hides-His-Heart is gone. The Argonian enforcer, as well as his mysterious organization, is neither seen nor heard from again after this mission.

Notes

  • Hides-His-Heart has three lines of unused dialogue: a line about Chorrol and two greetings.
"I'm not from Chorrol. I'm afraid I can't tell you anything at all about the town." (listen)
"I conduct business here. No offense, but I haven't got time for small talk." (listen)
"Perhaps I wasn't clear. I cannot spare time to talk with you. Would you be so kind as to leave me alone?" (listen)
