Detailed Walkthrough
Orders
Lorbumol gro-Aglakh in the Vivec Guild of Fighters asks you to return 2,000 septims of debt money from Lirielle Stoine in Ald'ruhn in The Rat in the Pot.
Lirielle's Debt
If you talk with Percius Mercius in the Ald'ruhn Guild of Fighters, he will tell you: "It was not Lirielle Stoine who owed money, but her brother Ranus [sic] Stoine. Ranus [sic] was murdered, and I don't think Lirielle has 2000 septims. You'lll have to either find the gold Ranus [sic] had or pay the 2000 septims yourself." This is the same story that Lirielle will give you, though she knows that Ruran was killed in Mallapi, northeast of Gnaar Mok, where he went to seek his fortune.
If you didn't already confirm this quest by discussing debt money with Lorbumal, you have the option to back out of it, even after discussing debt money with Percius, who will suggest that the contract isn't legitimate. As a result, Lirielle won't offer the debt money topic unless you go back to Vivec and confirm it. Meanwhile, Lorbumal has other quests for you to do, which may be accessed by discussing Rufinus Alleius with him, and you may still discuss debt money with Lorbumal later, (or simultaneously), if you wish.
If you confirm the quest with 2,000 gold to spare, you may give it to Lorbumal before going to Ald'ruhn, but if you do, Lirielle will be so glad the matter is settled that she won't even talk about Ruran or Mallapi.
Mallapi
Though you don't have to go to Mallapi, it may be worth your while, especially if you can't afford to part with the 2,000 gold yourself (well, only 1,000 gold since you get to keep half of the debt). Mallapi is on the hills just northeast of Gnaar Mok as Lirielle mentioned. Ruran's corpse is in a dead end just inside the entrance under some water. With the loot from his corpse and the remaining treasure in the caves, you should easily be able to make up the 1,000 gold for the debt.
Return to Lorbumol for your 1,000 gold reward (half of the debt money).
Notes
- Killing Lorbumol won't remove the quest from your journal.
