Locations

Marked for Death is a shout that drains the health and damages the armor of an enemy, making that enemy more vulnerable to physical damage. All three versions have a duration of 60 seconds. Effects of the shout can be reduced by magic resistance, though the shout will always drain at least 1 point of health per second.

Notes

  • Once a target has its armor rating reduced to zero, the effects will continue into negative values, resulting in potentially huge increase in damage dealt by melee weapons, well above the base and/or total damage of a weapon.
  • The damage armor effect stacks with itself, making it possible to kill enemies with several thousand points of health with a single blow from even the most basic weapons.
    • This is because the shout does not have the "Recover" flag set, so the damage armor effect is not treated as a temporary debuff that is applied once and fades away at the end, but as permanent damage to the target's armor that ticks once per second.
    • Ficheiro:Pc22.pngVersion 1.1 of the Unofficial Skyrim Patch prevents the shout from stacking with itself when used multiple times in succession and sets the "Recover" flag, ensuring the effect is not permanent. This does mean that the effect is only applied once per cast instead of once per second, so the top level of Marked for Death reduces damage resistance by 9%, which is only noticeable against the most armored of opponents.
  • Like other shouts, Companion's Insight will protect followers from the effects of Marked for Death.

Bugs

  • The voice acting for this shout is incorrect; the character will say "Lun Lun" for Lv.2 and "Lun Lun Aus" for Lv.3.
  • The word wall of "Krii" has some of the text cut off. Both the "R" in "ROKei" and the "M" in "MOROKei," though still legible, are only half letters. Based on its translation, it is probable that "ROKei" is actually "MOROKei" and the line that begins with "MOROKei" is actually "KO MOROKei."
  • The word wall in Forsaken Cave has been known to go through all cinematics, with the player getting a message saying they have learned the word. However the word does not become available for the player to unlock. Leaving the cave and returning does not allow the cinematic to re-run.
  • The shout reduces armor permanently, making followers very weak for the rest of the game. With the console command "getav damageresist" and "restoreactorvalue damageresist <number>" you can get and restore the armor rating of your marked follower.
  • Learning Drain Vitality before learning all three words of Marked for Death may cause Marked for Death to become glitched so no newer words may be learned.
  • Learning a word of Marked for Death after installing Dawnguard causes a glitched shout to appear in the Shouts menu. It is named Drain Vitality, but has all three words of Marked for Death. The recharge is 12,12,12 and the bugged description says "Drains 1 points of Health per second for 20 seconds. Drains 1 points of Magicka per second for 20 seconds. Drains 1 points of". Using the shout causes the effect listed, although no words are actually shouted by the character and NPCs do not become hostile. See the bug section of the page Drain Vitality for fixes.
  • When multiple targets are hit with Marked for Death the health meter will stay locked onto a single target and will not change until that target is killed ?
