Tashpi Ashibael

Tashpi Ashibael is a Dunmer healer located inside her hut in Maar Gan.

If you ask around in town about her during the Mages Guild quest, the response will be "Tashpi is our healer, not some necromancer. Everyone here in Maar Gan knows her and all the good she's done here."

However, this generous person managed to form a powerful enemy: Ranis Athrys, head of the Mages Guild in Balmora. The nature of a conflict can't be revealed clearly, but according to Tashpi's own words, she provoked Ranis' grudge by both refusing to join the guild and being Velothi, not a well born (i.e. born under Imperial influence) Dunmer like Ranis. Tashpi chose to stay away from the guild's politics and to practice healing among other native Dunmer.

Necromancer or not?

At least, Tashpi's explanation makes sense: her well-earned popularity in Maar Gan is a good reason to jaundice, since Ranis is so separate from native culture living in Imperial-influenced town and guild. Besides, there are other small hints which can be easily spotted.

  • All quests given by Ranis uncover her as a cruel, unprincipled, and vengeful person. See respective page for details.
  • The items found in Tashpi Ashibael's hut and inventory suggest she is indeed a healer.
  • Finally, Ranis' dialogue at the end of the quest, "She is truly dead? You have done me... the Guild, that is, a great service." suggests that the conflict was personal.

Notes

  • Tashpi will abandon her house if you spare her life during the quest.
  • If you kill Tashpi, asking people in Maar Gan about her will produce an answer "How dare you talk about that after what you did?"
  • If you take the dialogue path towards killing Tashpi Ashibael, she calls for help from her ancestors, saying "Spirits of my Ancestors, protect me!" Afterwards, the game scripts place an Ancestor Ghost in the house to defend her.
