Detailed Walkthrough

Quest Offer

Questgiver says:

(Player's first name), I have an important mission that will require the utmost discretion. I can't tell you more unless you agree to help me. What do you say?

Quest Acceptance

Questgiver goes on:

An old friend of mine is in grave danger, and needs an escort who is handy with a blade and can keep a secret. Naturally, I thought of you. (contact's name) will meet you at 10:00 tonight at (residence). (He/She) will tell you more when you arrive. I would come with you, but since I am known as (his/her) friend, I might lead (his/her) enemies to (him/her). Watch your back on this one.

Quest Decline

Questgiver answers:

(Exclamation), I had expected much more of you.

Quest Object

About thirty-five in-game minutes after you accepted the quest, you should get a letter from a child and in addition the questgiver of the Fighters Guild will also be gone. The letter you got contains following message:

Dear (player's name),
Change of plans. (questgiver's name) had to leave town quickly, and asked me to meet you in (tavern). Please come at once. The matter is extremely urgent.
(tavern contact's name)

The tavern contact will be absent from 22:00 to 24:00. When you meet the person in a tavern in town he/she will greet you by saying:

(player's name), right? I'm glad I managed to contact you. Did (questgiver's name) tell you much about what was going on? I didn't think so. Suffice it to say that the Necromancers are involved. Dangerous people to cross, indeed. But, I have an amulet for you which will warn you if agents of the Necromancers are nearby. Should come in handy. Keep a wary eye out, friend.

Meet the contact you are supposed to protect in the residence the questgiver mentioned to you between 22:00 and 24:00 on the day you accepted the quest. Talk to him/her and he she will say:

You are (player's name)? (questgiver's name) described you well. I am (contact's name). We must proceed to Sentinel at once. I can tell you no more, except that the enemies of Queen Akorithi would give much to stop us.

If you arrive after 24:00 you will only find a dead body and no hint what is going on and without any clues you cannot proceed with this quest.

In case you both leave the house your contact will be killed by an arrow, once you are outside, but before he/she dies, you will be given a letter, which reveals Lord K'avar's plans for a coup de main against Queen Akorithi of Sentinel. Defend yourself against the three archers and two mages that show up.

In the letter you got from the contact, Lord K'avar's current location is revealed, it will be the palace of a random city in the current region. Additionally his stronghold within the region is also revealed, a random dungeon. Lord K'avar will stay at the palace for three and a half to about fourteen days, starting from the moment you accepted the quest. But at the moment you probably have more serious problems you should attend to. Five in-game minutes after the ambush, the amulet you have received from the contact in the tavern will start to glow and it will teleport you to a random dungeon in the region from which you must get out by finding the dungeon's exit. This was obviously a trap laid out for you and the tavern contact was indeed one of Lord K'avar's men. If you have thrown the amulet away or have sold it in the meantime, you will not have these troubles, but how should you have known what this amulet can do?

Once you have escaped the dungeon either travel to the palace and meet with Lord K'avar, or travel directly to Queen Akorithi in Sentinel. The time limit for speaking to Akorithi depends on the distance between the location you got the quest and Sentinel. You will be pursued by archers until the quest is over shortly after the ambush has taken place. They will not pursue you as long as you are in the dungeon you were teleported to by the amulet.

Meeting Lord K'avar

Lord K'avar in person

When you meet Lord K'avar in time and give him your contact's letter he will be pleased and say:

I seem to have misjudged you, (player's name). Perhaps we can be friends after all. Here, take this diamond for your troubles.

In addition to the diamond you will also gain reputation with him and Sentinel, despite the fact that he plans a coup de main there.

If you arrive too late and you want to give him the letter after all, you must seek him out in his stronghold, which will result in a standard dungeon crawl.

When you meet him in the palace and don't give him the letter, he will escape to his stronghold.

In case you gave the letter to Lord K'avar you will be contacted by one of his men in 31 to 93 days for another quest.

Meeting Queen Akorithi

When you give the letter to Queen Akorithi as long as Lord K'avar is still at the palace, she will say after reading the letter:

There can be no doubt. This is his personal seal and signature.Guards! Go to the Great Hall and seize Lord K'avar at once, and throw him in the dungeon.

You will gain reputation with Queen Akorithi and Sentinel and a random amount of gold.

When Lord K'avar is already at his stronghold when you give the letter to Akorithi, she will offer you the task to capture him. If you decline to do this, she will say that she can do this also on her own and the quest will end after she gives you a random amount of gold.

Getting Lord K'avar

In case you want to capture Lord K'avar, travel to his stronghold in the region where you started this quest. The time limit for this task depends on the distance from Sentinel to the stronghold. Find Lord K'avar within the stronghold, he will be a Ranger class enemy. When you hit him for the first time he will shout:

Surrender and be dragged through the streets of Sentinel as a public spectacle? Never!

When you don't manage to kill him within five in-game minutes he will escape, so attack quickly, or following message will pop-up:

Lord K'avar throws down his weapon. Thinking he is surrendering, you pause in your attack, but instead he twists a ring on his finger. As Lord K'avar disappears in a haze of light, you faintly hear him shout, "Tell that bitch that she hasn't seen the last of me!"

When you return to Queen Akorithi after you have killed Lord K'avar she will give you a random magical item and thanks you by saying:

So be it. Lord K'avar chose his course, and paid the consequences, thanks to you. Here is an enchanted (magical item) for your service to Sentinel.

When you return after Lord K'avar managed to escape she will also give you the magical item and say:

(Exlamation)! Lord K'avar is a slippery one, indeed. Well, I will track him down eventually, never fear. Sentinel's justice will pursue him wherever he may hide. His associates have all been arrested or fled the realm, so Lord K'avar no longer poses any threat, at least. (player's name), please accept this enchanted (magical item) for your service to Sentinel.

Quest End

When Lord K'avar is still at the palace when you give the letter to Akorithi, you don't want to capture him or he has escaped during the battle, you will be contacted by Queen Akorithi in 31 to 93 days for another quest.

Notes

  • This quest is only available with the CompUSA Special Edition Patch.
  • When you give the letter to the Lord K'avar you can find in Palace Sentinel, the game will crash.
  • The Lord K'avar you meet at the palace has the correct flat that is allocated to this NPC. The Lord K'avar in Palace Sentinel has the wrong flat.
  • The questgiver of the Fighters Guild will be gone forever after this quest is over. That means he can no longer be found in the guildhall of the town.
    • You can revert this, however, by deleting from your savegame directory the ATF file that is allocated to the specific town. The downside is that you will also lose all map information for this town.
