Hey, my name is Patrik. I love everything about The Elder Scrolls: the games, the lore, the everything. I'm not very good at editing, though, so I'm just here for information (about the games and also background and lore).
I am an author by trade. In 2013, I released my debut books, the trilogy of novelettes Blades in the Dark and the novel The Winds of Change.
I haven't really played Daggerfall or Arena. Nor have I played any of the TES Travels games. However, I have played Morrowind, Oblivion, and Skyrim. The following text is what I think is good and bad about the various games. I play on Xbox, not pc, so I don't have access to console commands :'(
Combat
Anyway, I must say that I generally like the direction the games have gone. Skyrim is, according to me, by far the best game in the series. The change I like the most about Skyrim compared to the other two games I've played is the combat system. In Skyrim it is, as far as I'm concerned, perfect (I'm sure Bethesda is going to make the next game even better and more intense, though). I absolutely love how you now have control of both hands and that the shield is more of something you use rather than something stuck on your arm. Also, magic feels kind of powerful rather than how it felt in Oblivion: weak, useless, and meaningless.
Leveling
Each game seems to give you less and less skills. However, I deem the skill and leveling system in Skyrim perfect (as perfect as it can be). I love how you don't have to think, "Can I level up now? Oh, no I can't... I need to level up five skills that have endurence as governing attribute first. F**k."
Furthermore, I love how, compared to Oblivion, the game is hard(er). Everyone kept saying that leveling in Oblivion was bad because the enemies leveled with you and that ruined the purpose of leveling at all. Well, I say bulls**t. The problem with leveling wasn't that enemies were at an equal level to you the entire game. It was that by the middle of the game I had one hundred percent magic resistance and one hundred percent reflect damage, and as such I could only be hurt by magic weapons (logic = flawed, I know). So for me, the game got easier and easier since I basically COULD NOT DIE. So please, everyone, stop complaining about how it was bad that enemies leveled with you, 'cause that wasn't the real problem. I can see how it would be a problem without the "problem" I just described. But in its current state, Oblivion is ridiculously easy. The only hard part of the game was the Arena when you were at a low level, but once you leveled up a little and got better gear, it was no problem.
Miscellaneous
This brings me to the next part of today's agenda--the Arena! I miss it :( Morrowind is good in several aspects, too. It made daedric armor and whatnot rare and not something you consider throwing away because it weighs too much. I liked that. I also liked how they had divided the various parts of your armor into smaller segments (they seem to have less and less in each game).
Things I don't like
I don't like all the bugs... but there will always be bugs in HUGE games like these. And it hasn't been especially bad in The Elder Scrolls games. However, the Fallout games... now that's another topic (one that would be titled "F****ng Game-Breaking Bugs!").
I'm currently trying to find some time to read them, but between school, writing my own books (not fanfiction), watching the insanely many TV series currently on the air, and ruining my life by never going to sleep, it might take a while.
