VAMPIRES:
Dagon can't have your red-drink!
---Count: This one is probably the easiest for PC users, but console players could do it too. Step one: march right into a city with a non-essential count or countess (Bravil's count is never essential, but a few others become non-essential after certain quests) and kill them. How you do it is up to you. If you're one of those "everything that happens, happened in my mind" players (You kill a count, you assassinated them in cold blood) I would recommend a stealthy approach. Sneak in, and either sneak attack them while they're asleep, make it look like an accident, or poison them. If you're in the brotherhood, and not finished the Purification, buy some poison apples off M'raaj-Dar. If you're already silencer/past that rank, then go get them from Fort Farragut, in the respawning barrel. Either way, when the count or countess eats the apple, they're gone for good. Or, if you're the kind of player who makes a background, then just makes things accurate (RP'ing that you're a count{ess}, and always been said count({ess}), then walk up to their throne, stab 'em until they're a corpse, then pay off your bounty/go to jail, come back, and take over. That, or get a mod if you're on the PC. Now, you're the count(ess) of whatever city. To walk around undisturbed, get 100% chameleon, and don't talk to anybody while around the inner quarters. Alternatively, on the PC, I guess you could set it to whatever or use a mod, I am mainly here for the console players, since that is the version I have. As a vampire, either don't go out in the day, or be a bloodthirsty monster and drink the red stuff all night long. Either way, try to maintain a low profile. Take the count of Skingrad as a base for this lifestyle, his entire life pretty much consists of walking around the castle. Don't go into town much, you're a vampire after all, but you're a politician too, you should be concerned with your image. Don't go out with 100% vampirism, because people will then know your dark secret. For a little variety, pretend vampire hunters are in town, or maybe a local learned about your condition. Slaughter the vampire hunters, or bribe the local. Or vice versa.
---Ancient: You've walked across Tamriel for many years. Perhaps a couple of hundred, or maybe you witnessed the Ayleid's rise and fall. Maybe you're a special vampire, unlike the rest in certain ways. Perhaps you are a full vampire, it isn't a disease for you, its what you are, and what you've always been. Or maybe you're just like the rest, but older, smarter, and ageless. For this, I would recommend one of two options:
--Blend into society. You've been around for so long, you know what to do to be successful. How many vampiric vintners are there? Not many. Make good money, better disguise. Maybe you've assassinated a rich family, after tricking the only surviving heir to huge fortune to sign over his will. Either way, you gotta be rich. Personally, I use a method that is slightly ironic. It involves glitches, but it gets you a lot of cash. (Finish order of the virtuous blood quest, kill vampire, duplicate several hundred copies of vampire dust, leave one extra pile on the floor so you may repeat when necessary, and just continuously get gold. When done, rinse and repeat.) So, once you get the money, maybe you're a collector of sorts? Try to get all the Daedric artifacts to display at your home. Stand out, but not TOO much. Upper class clothing will do nicely with this one. I use a red velvet suit with fortify personality and a pair of the russet felt shoes for this one. Arnora's true amulet is a nice touch too.
--Dark overlord. You've been around for a long time. You know that the world will shun you once they know what you are, so, you shun them as well. Clear out a Ayleid ruin or fort. Constantly stay at 100% Vampirism, so you can show the world what they should be fearing. Slaughter settlements, raid dungeons, and cause chaos. Walk right into a town at night, pick a lock, feed on the home's owner, and then brutally murder them. Repeat until it is a ghost town. Maybe, you DO have friends.......In a dark, wet cave. Live among your vampiric brethren under the cloak of 100% chameleon. Or, maybe you're quite infamous, constantly walking into major cities, held up in a large fort or underground cavern, like Battlehorn castle or Deepscorn hollow, and have a large group of followers. Not necessarily vampiric, but maybe they are trying to earn your gift, and, in exchange, serve you. Personally, I always use a set of tattered robes. They're dirty, and look worn. Perfect for any ancient worth their salt. With SI, find the ruins of Cann, and go to the final area. One of the cells has a free set. Without it, you got two options to get these robes: Maiq the Liar wears the robes and hood, so, reverse pickpocket bound armor on to him, then pickpocket the clothing from him. Rindir at Rindir's Staffs sells the robes, but not the hood. Add some wrist irons for effect, or maybe leather bracers. Also, black robes go alright if you don't like the tattered robes, or find it too hard to get them.
THE WALKER:
Wander Tamriel as a cursed immortal, or maybe a plain old traveller.
---Ancient: Not the same as the vampire ancient, but sort of similar in the idea behind it. Maybe you've been wandering the world for centuries, due to a curse or something (Its not that hard to come up with a back-story leading up to the jail in the tutorial). Maybe you, like the other ancient, saw the rise and fall of the Ayleids. You may be the first of your race, cursed by the gods/daedra to exist for eternity, to see the consequences of your actions many, many years ago. Maybe you made a bad decision, and wound up cursing your race to damnation. Maybe you are just a REALLY bad person, and done some awful, terrible stuff eons ago. Have an Ayleid weapon (Enchanted Elven) and some really cool artifacts to reflect how long you've been around. How about you combine a full set of elven with Sigil stones and make a armor with 100% spell absorption, rendering your enemy's spells harmless, and, to add insult to injury, BENEFICIAL towards you. Resist Magicka also works nicely, and leaves a few slots for extra stuff if using a sigil stone. Resist Magicka sigil stones are up to 20% at the highest, so 5 of those, and leaves you a slot for two ring, a amulet, and a shield. Maybe you know some highly important, and often thought about, secrets. You could sell your information (On the PC.......Well, lets face it, 90% of people on the PC know how to add gold, and we DO have a console commands page), by pickpocketing the gold after sharing. Of course, you should save before doing that, unless you feel like getting kicked out of whatever guild the person may be in, getting the guards called one you, and losing disposition towards the NPC. Maybe you know the location of every Ayleid city, and visit them for Nostalgia. Maybe you've got some rare loot you want to hide? Hide it deep within the ruins. Never inside a container though, as they almost always respawn. Not in to the whole Ayleid thing? Be a different kind of Ancient. Make a home in a fort, loot the containers for equipment. Maybe you stumble upon the skeletal remains of a long dead friend? Place the remains in a honorable position, then create a memorial out of some equipment. Enchant them with some made-up name, then be off.
--The Merchant: Travel between cities on horseback, (sub-standard horse at lower levels, then advance with skill) whether you're selling poisons or books, you're making money. Max out your mercantile, and sell to your hearts content! Buy a cuirass from a smith, enchant it, and sell it for double price! Sell wines, cheeses, potions, anything! Eventually, when you get enough, settle down in the home of your choice in retirement. If you need gold, you know what to do.
--The Tourist: Oblivion is a stunning game, no doubting it. Some places have spectacular views, and you want to visit them all! Go sight seeing across Cyrodiil. Places I would recommend: Cloud top, at sunset. Dive Rock. Exterior of Tidewater cave, at dawn (Look out to the ocean). Carry some basic weaponry, a dagger or shortsword will do nicely. Not like you're actively going out and slaughtering entire dungeons of creatures. A forester shirt fits the look for this, and and brown clothing seems to look good with it.
