Ingredients
8 guaranteed samples can be found in 6 different locations:
- 2 centered 530 ft NE of the Pale Imperial Camp (The Pale) (map)
- 2 around Riverside Shack (Eastmarch)
- 1 in Driftshade Refuge (Winterhold)
- 1 in Fort Snowhawk (Hjaalmarch)
- 1 in Riften Fishery (Riften)
- 1 in Sinderion's Field Laboratory (Blackreach)
This ingredient is not in the VendorItemIngredient category that allows it to be traded by apothecary merchants (see bugs).
The only way to make this ingredient become available from apothecary merchants is to unlock the Merchant perk (requires level 50 Speech), at which point it is a "common" ingredient.
Remaining ways to obtain already-harvested mudcrab chitin all have relatively low probabilities. The best bets are:
- Peddlers may be randomly encountered in the wilderness (typically being attacked). These peddlers have a 25% chance of carrying 1-5 samples.
- 14% chance of 1-3 samples being carried by any Silver Hand member.
- Vaermina devotees have a 3% chance of carrying one.
- All types of apothecary's satchels as well as Pots hanging from cooking splits have a 3% chance of containing one.
- Warlocks have a 0.9% chance of carrying one.
Creatures
All mudcrabs, including the Mudcrab Guardian Spirit, will drop one or two samples of mudcrab chitin, depending on their size.
Bugs
- This ingredient cannot normally be bought from apothecary merchants, even though it should be available according to their merchandise leveled lists. It also cannot be sold to apothecary merchants; it can only be sold to general goods merchants.
- PC Only This bug is fixed by version 1.2 of the Unofficial Skyrim Patch.
