Redguard:Complete Beetle Walkthrough
General Notes
This walkthrough doesn't require jumping onto any of the three chains, but you should jump on each one and see what it does. You can do this at the start, before going on to assemble the "Transformer Beetle". (Or, rather, transform it into its alternate shape.)
The purpose of transforming the beetle is to make it into a form which will stand up and hold the back chain, which holds the exit door open, so you can go on. Notice the two curved green pincers (or whatever they are) sticking straight up at the top of the beetle when you first encounter it. (They look kinda like a horse shoe.) Follow their movements, because stepping on them is what triggers the first part of the transform. (But, they've got to be in the right position, before they will do that.)
Important Tip: Keep a named save game at the point when you first see the beetle, so you can go back to it if necessary, to start over. (You cannot get the beetle back into its original position after you first start turning it.)
Walkthrough
- First "turn" of the beetle
- Step on the pressure plate between the stakes by the entrance way. The beetle will turn so that those two green things are towards you.
- Second "turn" of the beetle
- Do a jump on the pressure plate (or step off it and back onto it), and the beetle will turn again. Go to the far-side scaffolding and get on the beam going across. If you look straight down, you see that you can almost step off the beam onto those pincers. Jump onto the head area of the beetle, and then turn and face the beam you jumped from. You'll be facing north, and look down to aim yourself to walk down the head and onto one of those pincers. Walk down the head, step onto a pincer, and walk along it until the head assembly swings down. (Actually, the head assembly will probably swing down as soon as you step onto the pincer, but if it doesn't, just keep walking along until it does.)
Subsequent Stages
(From now on, whenever "TURN" is mentioned, go to the pressure plate and stand on it.)
- Turn beetle once
- Go back to the back beam and jump onto the "nose part" with the big green dot that's right in front of you, and walk off it. (More unfolding occurs - this releases the legs.)
- Turn beetle once
- Beetle should be standing on its feet. Go up again, and from the end of the scaffolding on each side, jump (or step (running step) REAL carefully! - not recommended) onto the green "plates" that are sticking out the sides of the beetle. This releases the arms. Now, be careful when you go to the pressure plate - those free-swinging arms can grab hold of the side chains - and you've seen what happens to the stakes (and the guys caught in them) when those chains are pulled! So, now, when you step onto (or, better yet, turn and step backwards onto) the pressure plate, when it sinks down, move off of it, and get out of the range of those stakes when they come together!
- Turn beetle once
- Go to the scaffolding on the far side, and jump on one of the green legs. It should revolve down (revolving you along with it, until you're down on the floor again).
- Turn beetle once
- Make sure you're out of the range of those stakes if they come together! Arms will swing down and lock in front.
- Turn beetle once
- Go to far scaffolding, and jump onto the "nose" there (with the big green dot - notice how green keeps coming up for trigger areas?) This will make the legs stand the beetle up again.
- Turn beetle once
- Beetle should stand, grabbing back chain, and keeping exit open for you.
