Rimalus Bruiant is an Imperial noble living in Chorrol with his wife Rena, and their two dogs, Bailey and Kezune. They're well known around town as dog-lovers, but they have little importance in the game.
Rimulus' fatal faction bug will most likely get him killed before he ever gets to experience a normal day, but he was intended to be a real homebody. He sleeps in the upstairs area every night between midnight and 6am then freezes up near his bed all day long. If you are not inside the house, he eats two two-hour meals every day, at noon and 6pm respectively.
He wears a set of common middle-class clothing, consisting of a quilted doublet along with tan linens and a pair of doeskin shoes. He also carries the key to his house and a leveled amount of gold.
Speaking to Rimalus Bruiant will have him greet you by stating his name, and asking you if you've met his wife and dogs: "I'm Rimalus Bruiant. Perhaps you've met my wife, Rena? And our dogs, Bailey and Kezu?" Asking him about Chorrol will have him say; "Rena and I moved to Chorrol so we could have a nice, comfortable home for our dogs. It's a lovely town. And our dogs are so happy here." His wife concurs and will admit: "They probably call us 'the Dog People' here in town. Rimalus and I love dogs. We have quite a few. So sweet and well-behaved, you wouldn't believe."
In downtown Chorrol, puzzled citizens will often discuss the dog-obsessed couple. When asked for rumors or during private conversations they will say: "That Rimalus Bruiant sure loves his dogs. A little too much, if you ask me.", "I saw Rimalus Bruiant walking his dogs today. And yesterday. And the day before. I swear that's all he does.", "Have you seen the Bruiants and their dogs?" and "I think Rena Bruiant may actually love dogs more than her husband. Strange couple, those two." Others will respond with: "Odd folks, the way they dote on those dogs. They're not hurting anyone, though, so it's no concern of mine.", "I've seen them. Everyone likes a good dog, but they're an odd couple.", "I like dogs, but it's a bit excessive with those two folks." and "I've never been a huge dog lover myself, but some people really love them." Also, the two dogs has attracted the attention of an Orc local, namely Lum gro-Baroth: "Dogs are an orc's best friend. Good protection, good companions, good eats. The Bruiants have dogs. Lots of 'em."
Bugs
- When you enter the house or encounter Rimalus in the streets, he will attack his wife and dogs. This is caused by Rena and her dogs Bailey and Kezune all being in the Bruiant Family faction, to which - oddly - Rimalus does not belong. In addition, it also appears to be due to his unusually high Aggression, which appears to be a mistake.
- PC Only This bug is fixed by the Unofficial Oblivion Patch.
- Rimalus may follow you everywhere, even if you fast-travel. He is actually only supposed to follow you if you are at his house/basement, but his target is set as PlayerRef and as such, he will follow you everywhere. The package only lasts for one hour, so he will return to his normal duties after a short while.
- PC Only This bug is fixed by the Unofficial Oblivion Patch.
- Rimalus will freeze up next to his bed because his default homeowner package is set to nothing.
- PC Only This bug is fixed by version 3.1.0 of the Unofficial Oblivion Patch.
- Rimalus was supposed to pray at the Chapel of Stendarr every Sundas between 10am and noon but it was erroneously expecting him to be in the cell already before the package could run.
