After the human city of {{Lore Link|Saarthal}} was sacked by the {{Lore Link|Snow Elf|Elves}}, in an event known as the {{Lore Link|Night of Tears}}, Yngol fled back to Atmora with his father and brother.{{ref|name=SOTR2}} According to {{Lore Link|Nord}}ic myth, he forged {{Lore Link|Wuuthrad}}, Ysgramor's legendary battleaxe, on the deck of the fleeing ship the same night and presented it to his father.{{ref|name=SotR5}}
After returning to Atmora, Ysgramor sent Yngol and his brother to recruit the bravest warriors of the land and form the {{Lore Link|Five Hundred Companions}}.
