Karthwasten

Karthwasten is a small mining village in the Reach.

Ainethach is the owner of the whole town including the two surrounding mines. The mines at Karthwasten are two of the few mines in the Reach that is not owned by a Nord.

When you first enter Karthwasten, you will see the townsfolk squaring off against a group of mercenaries sent by the Silver-Blood family in Markarth to stop them working the mine until Ainethach, the owner of both the mines and all the houses in the village agrees to sell the land to the Silver-Blood family.

The town consists of three buildings in a semi-circle, Karthwasten Hall, where Ainethach lives, Enmon's house where Enmon lives with his wife Mena and daughter Fjotra and the miner's barracks, where Belchimac, Lash gra-Dushnikh and Ragnar live. There is a tanning rack in front of Karthwasten Hall and a grindstone on the deck in front of the miner's barracks.

Sanuarach mine is the main silver producing mine, its only entrance is located in the town, north of Karthwasten Hall. In front of the entrance is a smelter and three pieces of silver ore in a cart opposite. The entrance to Fenn's Gulch mine is at the northwestern end of town and has another smelter, two silver ingots and a piece of silver ore to the left of the entrance.

  • A corundum ore vein is located east-northeast of the town, on a hill facing down to the river next to a circle of ancient stones.
  • Karthwasten previously appeared in Arena as Karthwasten Hall.
