Galathil

Galathil is a Bosmer found in the Ragged Flagon in Riften. She can change your appearance for the price of 1000 gold, but not your race or gender. If you are a vampire she says she cannot do anything for you, as she can only work on the living and not those who have passed into undeath. She is one of the few who can recognize your vampirism. She wears a set of hooded red robes and a pair of boots. She also carries a selection of common items and gold and a dagger of quality ranging from iron to elven.

Galathil will sit on her bench in The Ragged Flagon without interruption for any other tasks. She will spend her time reading and simply waiting.

When you approach her for the first time, she will draw you into a conversation by assessing your physical characteristics. If you are not a vampire, she will say, "Hmm, I suppose I can work with your face. After all, the sculptor cannot always choose the finest clay." If you are a vampire, she will say upfront that she cannot help you, "What have you done to yourself? I can't work with you in this state, night-walker."

Whether you are a vampire or not, you will be able to ask her this, "What are you talking about?" if you had never heard; or state that you were looking for her in response to rumors of someone who can perform Surgery by saying, "You must be the face sculptor I've heard about."

If you choose the former option, she will reply, "I assumed you were here to see me about your face. To have it sculpted into something more... artful than Nature has bestowed upon you." If you chose the latter, she will say, "Yes. I once practiced my art in the salons and manors of Tamriel's great and good. Now, the scum of Skyrim are my only clients. But no matter. The greatest artists are never recognized in their own time." No matter what path you took, her ability to work on you depends on you not being a vampire. If you aren't a vampire, she will ask if you came as a customer, "So are you here as a client? Shall I remake your face?" If you are a vampire, she will instead say this before backing out of the conversation, "But, my techniques only work on the living, not those that have crossed over into undeath."

If you are not a vampire, you can accept her offer to perform surgery on you by saying, "Yes, I'd like you to change my appearance." Pass on the opportunity for now by saying, "I'll have to think about it." or question her abilities to perform such an operation by asking her, "Are you sure you know what you're doing?"

Should you choose the first option with the required 1000 gold to pay for her services, she will say, "Hmm. Very well. Just tell me what you desire - beauty or hideous deformity, nothing is beyond my skill." This will be followed by the Character Creation menu opening, with the options to change your race and sex removed. Should you not have enough money but choose this option anyway, she will dismiss you by saying, "Despite my present low estate, I am no beggar. Begone until you have the coin to warrant my skills." Should you deny the chance to employ her services at the moment, she will accept your decision with this comment, "Indeed. It is no small thing to submit yourself to the flesh sculptor's knife." Should you choose the third option she will instead explain her credentials while ranting about how she has fallen so low, "I have not always been a ragged beggar. I learned my art from the masters of the art of flesh sculpture. I studied with the Faculty of Chirurgeons in Cloudrest. I walked with the Hollow-Faced Men of Nohotogrha for three years. I count the nobility of both the Empire and the Dominion among my clients. And yet, I have fallen so low that I must justify myself to a wanderer in the sewers of this backwater of the world."

Should you have initially denied, been denied, or changed your mind about employing her services, you can say this to her to gain access to them again, "I understand you know how to change someone's appearance."

Should you be a vampire, she will deny you the opportunity once again, "This is true, but my techniques only work on the living. You've chosen a different path to remake yourself." Should you count yourself among the living, she will instead say, "Change it? I can remake your face, if that's what you desire." She will then offer you her services, but she will be less polite about it if your equipment's value is less than 1000 gold. Should your gear be of good quality, she will say, "Why, are you interested in my services? I warn you, my skills do not come cheaply." or if your gear is of a lower condition she will doubt your ability to pay for her services with this comment, "I do not practice my art for free, however. I doubt you can afford my services. You have the smell of the vagabond about you." Despite her comments, whatever they may have been, you will once again be offered the chance to either accept or deny her services.

You will occasionally hear rumors about Galathil. Some people will be amazed at her abilities, stating, "People say there's someone in Riften that can... change your face. Make you look completely different. Do you believe that?" Others will advise that you stay clear of her with this claim, "Take my advice, don't listen to that talk of the "face sculptor" down in the Ragged Flagon. "Face butcher" is more like it from what I've heard." Both options give you her related quest, though you can still seek her out even if you were not aware of her abilities previously— the only benefit being a slightly different conversation path being available.
